Durban to Host Memorial Service for Ukhozi FM’s Zanele Mbokazi This Thursday
The city of Durban will come together this Thursday to honor the life and legacy of Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, the beloved Ukhozi FM presenter and founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards. The memorial service will take place at the SABC offices in Durban, starting at 9:30 am.
The news of Mbokazi’s passing was confirmed on Monday by her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule. In his heartfelt statement, he shared the deep loss felt by her family and fans alike.
Zanele Mbokazi joined Ukhozi FM in 1995, where she quickly became a cherished voice for the station’s Gospel music program. Her vibrant presence and dedication to spreading messages of love and faith made her a favorite among listeners. After a brief departure, Mbokazi rejoined Ukhozi FM in April 2023 and continued to inspire and uplift her audience until her untimely passing.
Ukhozi FM business manager, Sbongi Ngcobo, spoke warmly of Mbokazi’s contributions, stating, “Throughout her tenure, Zanele was an integral part of the Ukhozi FM family, spreading love, hope, and inspiration to countless listeners through her uplifting gospel show. Her passion for sharing the message of faith and her infectious enthusiasm touched hearts and transformed lives.”
The SABC’s acting group executive, Lala Tuku, also expressed her sorrow, highlighting the significant role Mbokazi played in the Crown Gospel Music Awards. “They shone a light on a much-loved music genre in the country. Her passion for the development of the music industry was commendable,” she said. “The SABC would like to send heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, the gospel fraternity, and fans at large.”
Mbokazi’s battle with lung cancer ended her life, but her legacy of faith, music, and love will continue to inspire many.
