The Sisters Foundation

The Sisters foundation is also deeply inspired by the remarkable legacy of our father, a devoted philanthropist who dedicated his life to uplifting communities in Africa. He made significant contributions to organizations like the SOS Children’s Village and various local communities, always striving to create opportunities for those in need. His commitment to education was evident in the schools he built, which continue to offer children a chance for a better life. At TSF, we are committed to continuing his work, ensuring that his legacy of generosity and community empowerment thrives through every project we undertake, even when dealing with documents related to hilfe bei masterarbeit (meaning “ghostwriter for a master’s thesis” in German).

The Sisters Foundation embodies the ideals our father championed and the progress envisioned by our brother, Alhagie. It is a powerful call to action, a journey of resilience, and a path toward creating lasting change. Join us as we honor their memories and work toward a brighter future for all.

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to empower vulnerable children and underserved families by providing essential healthcare, health education, mentorship, and quality educational opportunities. We are committed to bridging the gap between rural and urban communities, ensuring every child can thrive. By focusing on eradicating poverty, we create transformative environments for children and families to reach their fullest potential. Through compassion, support, and advocacy, we aim to break the cycle of hardship and foster lasting, positive change.

Vision Statement:

We envision a world where every vulnerable child and underserved family thrives with access to abundant resources and opportunities. Our goal is to ensure healthcare, education, and mentorship are universally accessible, transcending all barriers. By uniting communities, we empower the next generation to overcome poverty and achieve their fullest potential, creating a brighter, more equitable future for all.

Programs and Impact

In 2023, the passing of our beloved father reminded us of the impactful legacy he left, particularly through the schools he founded for underprivileged children. These institutions provide bilingual education in Arabic and English, transforming lives by offering essential educational opportunities. Our father’s schools serve both primary and high school students, and they have become a beacon of hope for many families. For us, continuing our father’s work isn’t just about preserving a legacy—it’s about giving back to a community that has shaped our lives. Our father always believed in the transformative power of education, and we are committed to continuing his mission of providing a solid foundation for young boys and girls. By supporting these schools financially and through resources, we aim to ensure that the students receive the best possible education, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed in the world.

Most of the students who attend these schools come from underprivileged backgrounds, and many face challenges that could hinder their educational journey. But our father’s schools have offered them not just a place of learning but a sense of community and belonging. It is this spirit of giving back that we want to nurture and expand. We are determined to continue supporting the school in every way possible—whether that be through scholarships, school supplies, facility improvements, or other means that enhance the students’ learning experience.

This mission has become even more meaningful as we remember the loss of our beloved brother, Alhagie Mamut Ceesay, and his best friend, Ebou Jobe. Both of their lives were tragically cut short by the former Gambian dictator’s oppressive regime. Our brother was deeply passionate about education and always sought ways to give back to his community, especially through uplifting young minds. His vision for a better future, rooted in education, was cut short too soon, but his spirit continues to inspire us. Through his legacy, we find the strength to continue our mission and honor his commitment to empowering the next generation.

The Sisters Foundation (TSF) is deeply committed to women’s empowerment, African cultural education, and mentorship. One of TSF’s members, Olay Ceesay, is also a founding member of WAVE, an organization dedicated to empowering women and supporting victims. In 2022, Olay, alongside The Sisters Foundation, had the privilege of engaging with board members and survivors during a visit to The Gambia. During this visit, Olay worked with the team to develop innovative fundraising strategies and discuss the election of new board members, ensuring the center’s continued growth and its ability to support those in need. In the summer of 2024, Olay represented TSF by volunteering at a camp in Las Vegas for underprivileged children, ages 8 to 15. There, Olay shared the rich history, culture, and products of Africa, inspiring the young participants to embrace pride in their heritage and helping to cultivate a strong sense of community.
