Tyla, Ringo, and Sipho to Receive Prestigious Awards at 2024 South African Music Awards
The 2024 South African Music Awards (SAMAs) will be an exciting celebration of the country’s rich musical talent. This year, the prestigious event will take place on November 2 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, and several stars are already set to receive major accolades.
Among those being honored is the South African global sensation, Tyla, who will receive the Best International Achievement Award. Tyla has made a name for herself both locally and internationally, earning significant recognition for her work. She has won a Grammy for Best African Music Performance, a BET Award for Best International Act, and a VMA for Best Afrobeats. Additionally, Tyla was celebrated at the Basadi in Music Awards for the highest airplay, showcasing her widespread influence in the music industry. Her impressive track record highlights how she continues to raise the bar for South African artists and is a testament to the country’s impact on the global music scene.
Apart from the international recognition, Tyla leads the SAMAs nomination list with five nominations. These nominations include some of the top categories: Album of the Year, Best Female Artist of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Best Pop Album, and Best Collaboration for her song “Water” with Travis Scott.
Not only will the night honor young stars like Tyla, but the SAMAs will also pay tribute to two South African music legends: Ringo Madlingozi and Sipho Makhabane. These two icons will be celebrated with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their long-standing contributions to South African music.
Ringo Madlingozi, known for his soulful music and dedication to spreading messages of love, unity, and hope, has a career that spans decades. With 15 albums and collaborations with icons such as Miriam Makeba and UB40, Ringo has made an undeniable mark on South African music. His influence extends beyond just creating music; he has also dedicated himself to uplifting communities and mentoring young talent, making him a musical icon whose legacy is cherished.
On the other hand, Sipho Makhabane, often regarded as a pivotal figure in the gospel music scene, will also receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. After his official retirement in 2010, Makhabane shifted his focus to supporting and nurturing emerging gospel artists. His contributions to South African gospel music have not only inspired countless listeners but also helped shape the careers of many new gospel artists in the country.
With these exciting honors and performances, the 2024 SAMAs promises to be a night full of celebration, as both seasoned legends and rising stars share the spotlight. South African music, both past and present, continues to resonate on the global stage, and events like these further highlight the talent that the country offers to the world.
