Netflix Star Julián Ortega, 41, Passes Away After Heart Attack on Spanish Beach
In a tragic turn of events, Netflix star Julián Ortega has passed away at the age of 41 following a sudden heart attack while at the Playa de Zahora beach in Cádiz, Spain, over the weekend. Ortega, best known for his role in the hit Spanish-language Netflix drama series “Elite” and films like “Sicario,” collapsed on Sunday and went into cardiac arrest while on the shore, as reported by The Olive Press.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts to revive him for over 30 minutes, Ortega was pronounced dead at the location. The Spanish Union of Actors and Actresses confirmed his death and honored him with a heartfelt obituary: “Our deepest condolences to his family and friends from the Union of Actors and Actresses. Rest in peace.”
Julián Ortega rose to fame with his portrayal in six episodes of the first season of “Elite,” a gripping teen drama that followed the intense and dangerous lives of a group of working-class teens and their wealthy classmates, culminating in a shocking murder. Ortega played the manager of the La Cabana restaurant in the series, which ran for eight successful seasons, concluding in July 2023.
Aside from “Elite,” Ortega’s impressive acting credits included appearances in popular Spanish series such as “Cable Girls,” “Caronte,” and “Velvet and The Countryside.” His most recent role was in the Spanish soap opera “4 Estrellas.” A graduate of the prestigious Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático in Madrid, Ortega’s career was marked by his talent, dedication, and passion for the craft of acting.
Ortega’s sudden passing has sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes from fans and fellow actors on social media. Theatre and screen actress Sílvia Marsó, 61, expressed her sorrow on Instagram, sharing a selfie with Ortega and writing: “I can’t even imagine how his parents, colleagues, so beloved in the profession, are feeling. How horrible.”
Actress Helena Lanza also remembered Ortega fondly, stating, “Julian, I will always remember you. An empathetic, kind, generous, intelligent, talented being. How I enjoyed watching him on stage and how I loved sharing plans with him. How many talks together and how many laughs we’ve had.”
Raquel Guerrero, another close friend and colleague, shared her tribute online, saying: “A pleasure to have been able to share a bit of this life and be able to enjoy your education, your humility, and your work.”
The entertainment world mourns the loss of this remarkable talent, and Julián Ortega will be remembered not only for his contributions to Spanish television and film but also for the warmth and kindness he showed to those who knew him.
