In a recent podcast episode, seasoned actor Carlo Radebe took centre stage to clear the air about a persistent rumour that had him trading red carpets for cardboard boxes. Addressing the issue head-on, Radebe revealed that the narrative circulating about his supposed homelessness is entirely false.
The rumour, which caught fire on social media in April 2024, painted a grim picture of Radebe’s life, complete with posts asking for donations and acting gigs. These posts even included a bank account number, allegedly set up to “help” the actor get back on his feet. However, the truth is far from what was portrayed online.
Known for his powerful performances in popular South African shows like Generations and Backstage, Radebe found himself in a real-life drama of misinformation. Speaking candidly on Podcast and Chill this week, he stated, “No, I have not been homeless.”
Radebe explained that while he has faced career challenges, the idea that he was living on the streets is completely unfounded. He expressed frustration with the media, noting that such misinformation discredited him and hindered any genuine support he might have received. Despite this, he remains thankful for the outpouring of support from fans who, believing the rumours, donated money to him—enough to help him get by for three months.
“Thank you very much, Twitter, for putting out the word for me and getting me some amazing donations,” Radebe said, expressing his heartfelt gratitude.
Reflecting on his past, Radebe shared with host MacG that he is not one to waste money and regrets not investing more wisely during his acting career. However, his passion for performing remains undiminished. “Even if I only receive one callback, all I want is to carry on performing and not worry about getting a main role,” he added.
