Rising Star TeKayha Sukuram Opens Up About Modeling Journey and Acting Ambitions
At just 22, TeKayha Anastasia Sukuram from Durban is a vibrant and ambitious young talent, making her mark as a model, actress, dancer, and philanthropist. Known for her positivity and confidence, she describes herself as “a confident changemaker and dream chaser,” and strives to create opportunities rather than wait for them to appear.
In an exclusive interview with Independent Media Lifestyle, Sukuram shared her perspective: “I am a ‘look at the glass half full’ type of person, and I believe in going out into the world and creating your own opportunities.” Her journey reflects this mindset as she uses her platform to inspire change.
Already crowned Zee TV Miss India South Africa 2023, Sukuram is building her own brand and making strides in the entertainment world. Her love for the arts was evident from an early age, nurtured by her supportive family. She recalls a childhood full of encouragement from her parents, which shaped her ambitions in acting and performing.
Sukuram’s modeling career took off after she participated in a showcase that led her to represent South Africa at the prestigious New York City Model Convention. This experience not only opened doors in modeling but also amplified her career in acting and dancing. “This experience played a major role in taking my career to the next level, not just with modeling, but with acting and dancing as well,” Sukuram explained.
Her platform has since allowed her to raise awareness for various social causes through her non-profit, The Changemakers, dedicated to supporting youth empowerment and social justice initiatives.
Inspired by strong female role models, she admires Priyanka Chopra, a global icon known for her accomplishments in Bollywood and Hollywood, as well as her philanthropic work. “Priyanka is someone that I aspire to be like,” Sukuram said, noting Chopra’s success across multiple fields.
Sukuram’s accomplishments continued as she represented South Africa at the Miss India Worldwide Pageant in the United States. She placed in the top five and was awarded the title of Miss Bollywood Worldwide. Describing the experience as “memorable and a privilege,” Sukuram reflects, “It was an opportunity of a lifetime – the friendships forged, the growth, and the chance to represent my country on such a grand stage was priceless.”
Driven by her dreams and dedication, Sukuram emphasizes that motivation and discipline have been instrumental in reaching her goals. “The entertainment industry and pageantry is my passion. The best part is that through this, I can connect with people and boost my social projects,” she explained.
Looking ahead, Sukuram is eagerly awaiting her debut in Indian cinema. She stars in the upcoming movie Sugar Can Boy The Movie, set to release soon. As she embarks on this exciting new chapter, Sukuram remains committed to her mission to inspire, uplift, and connect with others through her work.
