The Signing Ceremony: A Milestone for Gambian Arts and Culture
The National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) has taken a significant step in celebrating Gambia’s Diamond Jubilee by signing contracts worth D3 million with over 100 distinguished Gambian cultural artists and groups. The signing ceremony took place on Tuesday, 11th February 2024, at the NCAC Annex along Kairaba Avenue, signifying a remarkable initiative to showcase the country’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.
A Platform for Artistic Excellence
The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will bring together an extensive range of Gambian talent, including musicians, dancers, visual artists, and cultural performers. This momentous occasion will not only highlight the nation’s artistic excellence but also serve as a platform for emerging talents to shine alongside seasoned performers.
According to Hassoum Ceesay, Director General of NCAC, the National Organizing Committee has entrusted NCAC with overseeing the artistic components of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, ensuring that the events are executed to the highest standards. With the inclusion of live bands, choreographers, producers, and technical experts, the celebrations promise to be a cultural spectacle of grand proportions.
Exciting Events Lined Up
The celebrations will feature a range of cultural events, including:
1. Musical Jamboree at Arch 22 (18th February 2024)
This event will bring together young and veteran artists such as Nyacho, ST, Jizzle, Jaliba, and many more, delivering electrifying performances that showcase the evolution of Gambian music over the years.
2. Largest Fine Art Exhibition in Gambia’s History
A special Fine Art Exhibition will display the works of 25 prominent Gambian artists, making it the largest of its kind in the country. This exhibition will provide a platform for local artists to present their creative expressions and interpretations of Gambian history and culture.
3. A Literary Celebration
A grand Book Exhibition will be organized at a later date, inviting the public to explore the literary achievements of Gambian authors and historians. This event will be held at the National Museum in Independence Drive and will serve as an opportunity to appreciate Gambia’s literary contributions over the past six decades.

The Diamond Jubilee festivities aim to unite Gambians through the power of art, music, and cultural heritage.
