Severe Weather Alert Issued for Free State, Northern Cape, and More
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has alerted residents about impending severe weather, issuing two significant warnings. A Yellow Level 1 warning has been issued for areas including the western and southern parts of the Free State, the western region of North West, the north-eastern part of the Northern Cape, and the eastern interior of the Eastern Cape. Residents should prepare for strong winds, heavy downpours, and possible storm surges, which could lead to dangerous conditions.
Additionally, a Yellow Level 1 warning has been issued for damaging winds and waves along the coastal areas between East London and Durban. These weather conditions can pose serious risks, particularly for those near the coast, including potential flooding and hazardous driving conditions.
In the Northern Cape, the central region is facing an extremely high fire danger, particularly in the Sundays River Valley Municipality of the Eastern Cape. This fire risk is a major concern due to the dry conditions and strong winds, which can rapidly spread any fires that break out.
Across other parts of the country, the weather patterns continue to shift. The Western Cape will see cloudy skies over its south-western regions, with some morning drizzle along the west coast, transitioning to a partly cloudy and cool day. The north-eastern parts of the province will experience warm weather, with evening showers and rain likely along the southern coast.
For the Northern Cape, conditions will remain fine, windy, and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers expected in the far eastern areas. Mpumalanga residents can expect morning fog along the escarpment, which will clear as the day warms up. By afternoon, isolated showers and thundershowers are predicted.
In Limpopo, the morning will start with cloudy skies in the east, giving way to fine and warm weather as the day progresses. Finally, Gauteng will experience partly cloudy and warm conditions, with isolated showers and thundershowers likely in the southern parts of the province.
The SAWS encourages everyone to remain cautious and take necessary precautions, especially those living in affected areas. Be sure to monitor local weather reports and follow safety guidelines to protect yourself and your property.
