ANCYL Condemns Minister McKenzie for Sports, Arts, and Culture Failures
In a bold stance against recent developments within the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture, the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) has strongly criticized Minister Gayton McKenzie. The youth league labeled the department’s recent actions as ‘disgraceful’ and ‘unacceptable’, accusing it of undermining South Africa’s artists and creatives.
The ANCYL, known for its unwavering advocacy, emphasized the crucial role of the department in fostering a supportive environment for artists like Mama Joy Chauke, a passionate supporter recognized during the recent Springboks vs New Zealand match in Paris Saint-Denis.
Highlighting the case of renowned artist Makhadzi, who reportedly faced financial discrepancies related to her BET Awards trip, the ANCYL condemned what it described as ‘glaring incompetence’ and ‘disconnect’ within the department. The league further criticized Minister McKenzie for what it perceives as ‘unprofessional ethics’ and ‘lack of consideration for artist’s dignity’.
“We stand firmly with Makhadzi and all affected artists,” affirmed the ANCYL, underlining its commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of South African creatives. The league reiterated its dedication to ensuring a cultural and sporting environment where artists receive the support they deserve without facing public scrutiny or financial exploitation.
