ANC Takes Five Seats as Moya’s Diverse Mayoral Team Sets Governance Agenda for Tshwane
Nasiphi Moya Appoints Diverse Mayoral Committee to Lead Tshwane
In a decisive move to reshape Tshwane’s leadership, Executive Mayor Dr. Nasiphi Moya has unveiled her mayoral committee, a group that reflects the city’s diverse political landscape. This team, comprising 10 councillors from various political parties, marks a significant shift in governance. Parties represented in the committee include the African National Congress (ANC), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), GOOD, and ActionSA, signaling a collaborative approach to address Tshwane’s challenges.
Moya, who was elected as the mayor just last week, made the announcement during a press briefing. She emphasized that the mayoral committee will be accountable for its collective duties and urged the councillors to carry out their responsibilities with diligence and integrity. “Each member will be expected to perform their duties with the highest ethical standards, ensuring that the needs of Tshwane’s residents are met,” said Moya.
The newly appointed mayor has laid out clear priorities for her team. Among the top concerns are safety and security, economic development, and infrastructure investment. Moya vowed to enhance public safety in communities, noting that it is crucial for residents to feel secure. Additionally, she highlighted the importance of job creation and supporting business growth, especially through initiatives like the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).
Moya further pointed out that Tshwane’s infrastructure is in dire need of revitalization. From improving water systems to upgrading roads and housing, she made it clear that the city’s development will be a major focus. “We will invest in essential infrastructure to ensure that the quality of life for our residents is significantly improved,” she added.
One of the pressing issues for Moya’s administration is addressing the city’s R6.8 billion debt to Eskom. Energy sustainability will also be prioritized, with plans to work closely with Eskom to address electricity challenges faced by residents.
Moya also outlined plans for strengthening financial and audit management within the city. She believes that transparency and good governance are vital for Tshwane’s future. Ensuring efficient public services and enhancing communication through professional contact centers are also part of the agenda.
