Duduzile Zuma Addresses MK Members, Shares Personal Impact of Apartheid
Duduzile Zuma, daughter of former South African president Jacob Zuma, recently addressed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party members during a gathering, sharing both personal reflections and gratitude for their hard work. In a video circulating on social media, she openly acknowledged her language challenges and linked it to the effects of apartheid on her upbringing.
“I’m not fluent in isiZulu, and I apologize for that,” Zuma said, addressing the crowd in a mix of English and isiZulu. She went on to explain how apartheid had impacted her education, preventing her from fully learning her mother tongue while growing up outside of South Africa. “Give me a few years, and I’ll get there,” she added with a smile, as the crowd cheered her on.
Zuma continued to express her admiration for the MK party’s ongoing efforts. “This success is because of each and every one of you, and we are deeply grateful for your efforts,” she said, commending the dedication that has led to the party’s growing influence in recent elections and by-elections.
During her speech, she shared words of encouragement from her father, Jacob Zuma, who emphasized the importance of discipline and resilience. “He spoke about the discipline he had that helped him survive through tough times,” she noted, referring to his time spent in prison during the anti-apartheid struggle.
Zuma, who became a member of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) in September, closed her address by praising the party’s progress since its formation in December 2023. “We’re getting stronger every day, and this growth is a testament to your hard work and commitment. My father and I are immensely proud of what you’ve achieved, and we encourage you to stay focused and disciplined.”
Zuma’s appointment to the PAP adds to her political journey, where she now plays a role in addressing human rights, democratic governance, and promoting unity across Africa. The Pan-African Parliament serves as a vital platform for citizens from across the continent to discuss and shape policies that affect regional communities and promote sustainable development.
