Bullying in Schools: KZN Authorities Investigate Viral Classroom Assault
Bullying in schools is still a big problem in South Africa, even with many efforts to stop it. Recently, a bullying video from Thabela High School in Botha’s Hill, Durban, went viral on social media. In the video, three students were seen bullying another learner, asking him for money and attacking him.
The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Education quickly responded to this incident. They launched an investigation and sent a team to the school to look into what happened and to support the learners involved. The department said that they take bullying very seriously and are committed to keeping schools safe and respectful places for all learners.
“Student well-being is our top priority,” the department said. They also emphasized that bullying not only affects a student’s education but can also harm their mental and emotional health.
Being bullied can lead to problems like low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. It can also affect a learner’s academic performance and make them fear going to school. Many victims of bullying feel isolated and afraid to ask for help.
In response to the video, the KZN Department of Education said they will strengthen their anti-bullying programs in schools. They are asking students, parents, and teachers to work together to stop bullying and create a safer school environment. KZN MEC for Education, Sipho Hlomuka, called for everyone to do their part in making schools safe from any kind of harm.
October is National Bullying Awareness Month, a time to remind people to support those who might be suffering in silence. If you know someone who is being bullied, it’s important to help them get the support they need.
