ANCYL Leader Collen Malatji Rejects ActionSA’s Mayor Appointment in Tshwane
Collen Malatji Criticizes ActionSA’s Leadership in Tshwane
ANC Youth League (ANCYL) president, Collen Malatji, has made strong remarks regarding the recent election of Dr. Nasiphi Moya from ActionSA as the new mayor of Tshwane. According to Malatji, the city of Tshwane should not be handed over to “immature people who are still practising how to be leaders.”
The election of Dr. Moya followed the removal of former Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor Cilliers Brink through a motion of no confidence just two weeks ago. Dr. Moya secured a decisive victory with 122 votes, while her opponent, Brink, received only 86 votes.
Despite Moya’s win, Malatji is doubtful about ActionSA’s ability to govern effectively. He argues that only the ANC can truly improve the lives of Tshwane residents. “We don’t believe that ActionSA will do any better, but if the leadership in that area feels like that, it’s fine. However, the capital city cannot be an area for people who are just practising how to lead,” Malatji said.
Malatji’s skepticism is rooted in his belief that the ANC is the only party capable of governing Tshwane properly. He pointed out that when the DA tried to run the city, it failed, leading to a collapse in essential services. The DA governed Tshwane for eight years, but according to Malatji, their leadership was marked by inefficiency and failure.
Speaking during a media briefing in Johannesburg, Malatji highlighted that the ANC would have been the better choice for the mayoral position. He believes the ANC could restore Tshwane to its former glory, ensuring essential services like water supply in townships are reliable and that corruption is rooted out.
Malatji also addressed allegations of water supply manipulation in Tshwane’s townships. He claims that water is deliberately cut off so that criminals can profit by selling water to residents through tankers. He doubts that ActionSA’s leadership will be able to resolve these deep-rooted issues but cautiously extends the benefit of the doubt to them for now.
While he criticizes the current leadership, Malatji stands firm in his belief that the ANC is the only party capable of governing municipalities effectively. “South Africans have learned that not voting for the ANC was a dangerous mistake because there is no other party that can govern better,” Malatji asserted.
On the other hand, Dr. Nasiphi Moya, the newly appointed mayor, has promised to deliver services to the people of Tshwane, signaling her determination to lead effectively despite the criticism from the ANCYL. Time will tell whether ActionSA can meet the demands of Tshwane residents, or if Malatji’s doubts will prove valid.
